Rather than retrofitting safeguards after an issue has occurred, Safety by Design focuses on how technology companies can minimise online threats by anticipating, detecting and eliminating online harms before they occur.
The team was co-led by myself and a data specialist. The team consisted of BAs, PMs, POs, UX, UI front and back-end developers, data analysts and security advisors. We also engaged with 108 and consulted deeply with 51 industry members, NGOs, advocacy groups, expert individuals and government bodies while developing the resources.
What we came up with was a responsive system where the CRM and front end are in constant communication, pushing questions, answers, case studies and other content to the customer-facing website based on choices made by the user, while sending back progress information to allow for scoring, weighting and the development of a personalised end report.
We couldn’t have logins for security reasons, so we serve a reference code to our users. This will allow them to return to the tool and continue where they left off, all without having to share any PII with us.
To ensure security and privacy are robust and transparent, we also engaged 3rd party vendors to conduct a Privacy Impact Assessment and Security and penetration testing of the tool. This provided us with certification that the tool meets best practice privacy and security standards.
In December 2021, we won the Digital Economy Award
from the American Chamber of Commerce.
